Frequently Asked Questions

How to Use Our Wax Melts

How do I use a wax melt?

Place one or two wax melt segments (approx. 12.5g - 25g) into the dish of your wax warmer. Switch on your electric warmer or light a vegan tea-lights — and let the wax gently melt to release the fragrance. Never add water, and never leave a burning tea-light unattended.

How long does a wax melt last?

Each segment typically provides 8–12 hours of fragrance. Scent throw varies depending on the size of your room, the strength of heat from your warmer, and how sensitive your nose is. When the fragrance fades, simply let the wax cool and solidify before swapping it for a fresh piece.

How much wax should I put in my warmer?

We recommend starting with one segment for smaller rooms (up to 20 m²) and two segments for larger, open-plan spaces. Overfilling your warmer dish can cause the wax to overflow.

How do I remove used wax from my warmer?

Once the wax has cooled and set, pop it out of the dish with a spoon or wax remover tool — it usually lifts cleanly in one piece. Wipe the dish with a paper towel before adding fresh wax. Never pour liquid wax down the sink.

Can I mix different scents together?

Absolutely — this is part of the fun! Start with one dominant scent and add a complementary one at roughly a 2:1 ratio. All of our botanical blends are designed to layer beautifully together.

Pet Safety

Are your wax melts safe to use around pets?

We know your furry family members matter as much as your home fragrance. Our wax melts are made with 100% vegan, phthalate-free fragrance oils and a natural eco coco wax blend, which means no paraffin soot and no phthalates — the chemicals most commonly flagged as a concern around pets.

That said, we always recommend:

  • Using your warmer in a well-ventilated room so scent doesn't concentrate.
  • Keeping warmers out of reach of curious paws and tails.
  • Avoiding use in rooms where your pet sleeps for extended periods if they show any sensitivity.
  • Consulting your vet if you have birds, as avian respiratory systems are particularly sensitive to airborne substances.

We always err on the side of transparency: if your pet has a known respiratory condition, please check with your vet before using any home fragrance product.

Are your products cruelty-free?

Yes — completely. We never test on animals, and every ingredient we use is verified cruelty-free and vegan. No beeswax, no animal-derived fragrances, no exceptions.

Ingredients & Allergens

What wax do you use?

We use an eco coco wax blend — a natural, sustainable, vegan wax made from coconut and other plant-derived waxes. It's biodegradable, burns cleanly with minimal soot, and provides an excellent scent throw compared to paraffin alternatives.

What fragrance oils do you use?

All of our fragrances are phthalate-free and made with high-quality fragrance oils, some of which incorporate natural botanical extracts and essential oils. Our botanical range is inspired by the garden — expect notes of lavender, eucalyptus, rose, and earthy green botanicals.

Do your products contain allergens?

Our fragrance oils may contain trace amounts of common fragrance allergens as listed under EU/UK CLP regulations (e.g., linalool, limonene, geraniol). Full allergen information is listed on each product page and on our product packaging. If you have a known fragrance sensitivity, please check the individual product listing or get in touch and we'll help you find the right product.

Are your products vegan?

Yes. All Shelley's Botanical Wax Co products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. We use no animal-derived ingredients — including no beeswax, no honey, and no animal-derived musks.

Are your wax melts free from parabens and phthalates?

Yes. We are committed to clean formulations. Our fragrance oils are phthalate-free, and we do not use parabens in any of our products.

Shipping & Delivery

Where do you ship to?

We currently ship within the UK only. We're working on expanding to EU destinations — stay tuned for updates.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes! We offer free delivery on all UK orders over £30. Orders below this threshold are subject to a standard delivery charge shown at checkout.

How long will my order take to arrive?

We aim to dispatch orders within 1–3 working days. Once dispatched, standard UK delivery typically takes 2–4 working days. You'll receive a dispatch confirmation by email.

Storage & Shelf Life

How should I store my wax melts?

Store your wax melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and UV light can soften the wax and affect fragrance quality before you even use them. Keep them in their original packaging or a sealed container for best results.

Do wax melts have a shelf life?

Our wax melts are at their fragrant best within 12–18 months of purchase. They won't become unsafe after this point, but the scent throw may gradually diminish. Buying little and often is the best way to enjoy the freshest fragrance.
